Anyone else out there heard this yet? I'm wondering if it seems to
anyone else like a good portion of the song is directed at those who
slammed the Dixie Chicks for Maines' comments about the President.

Lyrics below.. as I read them over (after having just heard the song for
the first time on XM), there's no doubt in my mind at all that this song
was written as backlash at those who slammed the Chicks for Maines
exercising her First Amendment rights. Hell.. good for them. From
looking at the cover art to their website, it seems they're going to
embrace the 'persecuted and angry' motif... well, whatever works, I
guess. I felt at the time that country radio went too far to stir up a
shitstorm of hate against them over Maines' comments, while at the same
time feeling that fans had a right to choose not to listen to them.

Anyway.. the lyrics..

Forgive, sounds good

They say time heals everything
But I=3Fm still waiting

I=3Fm through with doubt
There=3Fs nothing left for me to figure out
I=3Fve paid a price
And I=3Fll keep paying

I=3Fm not ready to make nice
I=3Fm not ready to back down
I=3Fm still mad as hell and
I don=3Ft have time to go round and round and round
It=3Fs too late to make it right
I probably wouldn=3Ft if I could
=3FCause I=3Fm mad as hell
Can=3Ft bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can=3Ft you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don=3Ft mind sayin=3F
It=3Fs a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they=3Fd write me a letter
Sayin=3F that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I=3Fm not ready to make nice
I=3Fm not ready to back down
I=3Fm still mad as hell and

The lyrics dont make much sense sans music, but IAWTP. They have every
right to be made, just as fans had a right to not buy their music. However,
I dont think this will gain them any graces back from those same people.
Dropping it and moving on would probably have been the best alternative for
them, but its their money and they can do as they please. I never stopped
listening to them, even though I thought it classless to do this overseas.
I enjoy their music more than I was put out I guess.

Well, the song is getting a lot of airplay right now. I suppose perhaps
the fans like a group of girls who don't back down? Hell, I dunno.

Gumption? (How is that word spelled?)

As Enright has already pointed out, they weren't slammed for
exercising their First Amendment rights. Rather, they were slammed
because people chose to no longer support those they deemed stupid.
There's a difference, Bryan, and I'm surprised that you can't see it.

All that said, it appears that these girls are hellbent on continuing
their career suicide. They've been absent from the radio airwaves for
a couple of years now, and they're thisfar from playing county fairs
and casino boats. But instead of letting things die down, they just
keep stoking the controversy back up.

Then why have you continued to argue to the contrary. Down the
thread, you say "Tom, just for once, try to envision a world where
there's a possibility you're wrong about something. Yes, Maines was
destroyed in the media for exercising her First Amendment rights. She
had every right to say what she did. Though I don't agree with her
opinion, and in fact I was disgusted by what she said, I'm objective
enough to realize that the backlash was ridiculous. Why aren't you,
Tom?"

I disagree. In politics, you don't alienate your base without severe
consequences. The same is true here. This wasn't Barbra Streisand or
George Looney popping off about being ashamed to be from Texas, and
then following up with several more remarks afterward. This was a
group who's very career depends on support from country music fans.

Look at the President's approval rating. Watch their support rise as
his support falls. Coincidence, perhaps.. but then perhaps not.

Career suicide? Maybe they're just trying to bring more liberals into
country music. :)

:Good for them. More power to'em.
:How're their records selling?
:HAAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
I'm guessing that the new one will fly off of the shelves and hit #1.
On what chart? The Feminist ClapTrap Top 100?

HAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

'Not Ready to Make Nice', Words & Music by Emily Robison, Martie
Maguire, Natalie Maines, Dan Wilson
(source: www.dixiechicks.com)
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I=3Fm not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I=3Fm still waiting
I=3Fm through with doubt
There=3Fs nothing left for me to figure out
I=3Fve paid a price
And I=3Fll keep paying
I=3Fm not ready to make nice
I=3Fm not ready to back down
I=3Fm still mad as hell and
I don=3Ft have time to go round and round and round
It=3Fs too late to make it right
I probably wouldn=3Ft if I could
=3FCause I=3Fm mad as hell
Can=3Ft bring myself to do what it is you think I should
I know you said
Can=3Ft you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it
I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don=3Ft mind sayin=3F
It=3Fs a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they=3Fd write me a letter
Sayin=3F that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over
I=3Fm not ready to make nice
I=3Fm not ready to back down
I=3Fm still mad as hell and
I don=3Ft have time to go round and round and round
It=3Fs too late to make it right
I probably wouldn=3Ft if I could
=3FCause I=3Fm mad as hell
Can=3Ft bring myself to do what it is you think I should
I=3Fm not ready to make nice
I=3Fm not ready to back down
I=3Fm still mad as hell and
I don=3Ft have time to go round and round and round
It=3Fs too late to make it right
I probably wouldn=3Ft if I could
=3FCause I=3Fm mad as hell
Can=3Ft bring myself to do what it is you think I should
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I=3Fm not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I=3Fm still waiting
Sounds like a good song.

I have to question the timing a bit, though.

As well as I can recall(which is not terribly well), they were screaming
mea culpas immediately afterwards. Now that public opinion has swung in
the other direction it's, "Hell yeah we said it and we meant it, too!"

I don't recall that at all.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I don't remember it.
